Beaches on Margarita Island

On this page you will make a short trip to the beaches Margarita Island has to offer , no matter what your preference is. From tanquil, almost virgin beaches to rough ones with waves for surfing to the ones famous due to its large events, exotic restaurants and boulevards.

Porlamar – La Caracola: Runs in the same direcction as Avenida Bolivar with easy accesss.. Open space to park your car. It is closed to traffic form 6 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm and doubles as an open air exercise range on the shore.

Guacuco. Take the road that leads form the village Los Robles to Avenida 31 de Julio, take the right exito at Crucero de Guacuco and you will reach this beautiful beach. One and a half kilometers of soft waves and cristal clear water that reflects the color of the slightly red, fine sand. It has its name due to the abundance of clams found here. Try it, collect them right on the beach, it is really easy. Don´t leave before you try the Crema de Guacuco or Pasta with Guacuco, they are real special.

Playa Parguito: On Avenida 31 de Julio, passing Salamanca, La Fuente, El Salado y el Tirano you reach Playa Parguito. The sand is white and it is borded by palm trees. It is the beach favored by surfers and bodyboarders due to the size and quality of the waves. There are several excellent restaurants, offering all services (chairs, umbrellas, showers, toilets, food and drinks served directly on the beach). It is a very picturesque beach.

Playa El Agua: Just after Playa Parguito you reach Playa El Agua. Without doubt, it is the most famous beach on Margarita Island. Fine sand, plenty of palm trees give shelter the numerous restaurants that offer their service directly to the extension chairs. Most of the restaurants offer showers and toilets as well as a long list of tempting dishes, local ones as well as international ones. A cool and shady boulevard runs along the beach. At the beginning, there is a small picturesque free market where you can by beach towels, sun glasses, sandals, beach wear, tanning lotion and much more at reasonalbe prices. It is the beach, favored by locals and visitors, because of its beauty and variety of services and the huge beach parties organized in high season.

Playa Manzanillo: One of the most beautiful bays of Margarita. A fishermen village is located there. Watch the boats softly rocking on the waves and the fishermen repairing the nets. Take advantage of the opportunity to try "pescado sudado" (steamed fish) and fresh mussels.

Playa Zaragoza: In the center of the village Pedro Gonzalez. Watch the fisherboats achored in the deep, cold and tranquil waters. A boulevard boarded by colonial houses runs along the beach. Here you will find food, drinks and nautical sports.

Playa Puerto Cruz: Counts with a large parking lot. Two important hotels have direct access to this beach. The bay is pretty deep, the declive is pronounced and the waves break brusquely at the shore. All services are available at this beach.

Playa Caribe: Close to Juangriego, passing by the Fortin de la Galera you reach Playa Caribe. It´s landscape and clear waters cautivate locals and visitors. Excellent services are offered, several reknown restaurants offer all services (showers, toilets) , shade and chair rental and service at the beach.

Playa El Yaque: Located south of the airport. It offers excellent conditions for windsurf and kitesurf. The winds are perfect all year long with velocities up to 30 knots. This beach houses international competions every year. There are hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and Windsurf and Kitesurf stations..

Beaches at the Peninsula Macanao

You will discover the other face of Margarita Island an hour form Porlamar, crossing the bridge that unifies both parts of the island. Here you´ll find beaches well worth the long ride from Porlamar.

Playa La Restinga: 27 km of beach with sand composed by seashells and spectacular sunsets. You have to cross the La Restinga Lagoon to get there.Enjoy a 45 minute ride in one of the picturesque boats through the channels and tunnels of this mangrove lagoon, full of flamingos, seagulls, pelicans, parrots, sea horses (hipocampos) and starfish.

Playa Punta Arenas: We recommend to get there in 4-wheel drive to be able to appreciate not only this beautiful beach but also it´s virgin surroundings. A magnificent beach in Macanao

Playa Las Lajas: Is a charming little beach just after Punta Arenas. You can walk there from Playa Manzanillo, climbing over the rocks or by car taking the mud road behind the Restaurant. It is a delicious little beach and completely lonely. It is sure worth to visit it.

La Pared: Magnificent sunsets and guaranteed peaceful, strong waves. No services there. 1500 of natural beauty.
